Edited Highlights Desert Parks Bulletin No 470 – 5 March, 2014
Hi, here are the highlights from the current Desert Parks Bulletin issued today. If you are travelling outback over the summer period just remember the extreme temperatures can seriously stress both human and machine. Changes from previous bulletin are highlighted in red.
Lake Eyre National Park – Kati Thanda (Co-named on 14thNovember, 2013)
The lake is now dry. The best way to see the enormity of Lake Eyre is from the air.
Halligan Bay Track – Closed until 15th March 2014 due to public risk over summer.
Level Post Bay Track. – Open to 4WD. Caution at ponded water.
Tallaringa Conservation Park – Anne Beadell Highway – 2014 Closures
Due to Department of Defence requirements in 2014, the Anne Beadell Highway and thus Tallaringa will be closed from 19 May—8 June 2014. March closure has been cancelled.
Innamincka Regional Reserve and Coongie Lakes National Park
General Vehicle Access
Note: Be aware that entry to Innamincka Regional Reserve requires a day/camping permit or a Desert Parks Pass that must be displayed on the vehicle windscreen.
Coongie Track – Open to 4WD. Use caution at corrugations, as well as small washouts from recent rains.
Walkers Crossing Track – Closed between 1 December 2013 and 15 March 2014 due to public risk over summer.
15 Mile Track and Access to Cooper Creek – Open. Caution at washouts when accessing 15 Mile sites.
Cullyamurra Waterhole – Open to 4WD. Caution at washouts. Trailers and caravans not recommended due to washouts.
Burke’s Grave – Open to 4WD. Day visitors only.
Old Strzelecki Track (on Innamincka Regional Reserve only) – Open to 4WD.
Bore Track North – Open to 4WD.
Bore Track South – Closed. No visitor access across Bollards Lagoon station.
Witjira National Park and the Simpson Desert Reserves
Witjira National Park – Open to 4WD. Camping is restricted to Dalhousie Springs, 3 O’clock Creek and Purni Bore.
Simpson Desert – Closed until 15th March 2014 due to public risk over summer.As of the 16th of March 2014, vehicle flags will be mandatory in the Simpson Desert.
Warburton Crossing – Closed until 15th March 2014 due to public risk over summer.
*Desert Parks Passes are no longer available at Oodnadatta
