Desert Parks Access Update – 25 September, 2013

 Check road and local conditions before travelling into the Outback. Speed limits of 40km per hour apply within all Parks. For up to date public road information outside of National Parks, please call the Transport SA Road Condition Hotline on 1300 361 033 or visit the Transport SA web site.

Be aware that entry to Desert Parks requires a permit or a Desert Parks Pass that must be displayed on the vehicle windscreen.

Lake Eyre National Park

After a small amount of localised rain in early June, there is minor remnant water within the Warburton Groove.  Lake Eyre South is now dry.  The best way to see the enormity of Lake Eyre is from the air.

Halligan Bay TrackOpen to 4WD with caution due to wheel rutting and creek crossings.

Level Post Bay TrackOpen to 4WD with cautions due to wheel rutting and ponded water.

Tallaringa Conservation Park – Anne Beadell Highway – 2014 Closures

Due to Department of Defence requirements in 2014, theAnne Beadell Highwayand thus Tallaringa will be closed from 3—23 March and 19 May—8 June 2014.

Innamincka Regional Reserve and Coongie Lakes National Park

General Vehicle Access

Note: Be aware that entry to Innamincka Regional Reserve requires a day/camping permit or a Desert Parks Pass that must be displayed on the vehicle windscreen.

Coongie TrackOpen to 4WD. Use caution at corrugations, as well as small washouts from recent rains.

Walkers Crossing TrackOpen to 4WD. Use caution due to loose surface as track is freshly graded.

15 Mile Track and Access to Cooper CreekOpen.  Caution at washouts when accessing 15 Mile sites.

Cullyamurra WaterholeOpen to 4WD.  Caution at washouts.  Trailers and caravans not recommended due to washouts.

Burke’s GraveOpen to 4WD.  Day visitors only.

Old Strzelecki Track (on Innamincka Regional Reserve only)Open to 4WD.

Bore Track NorthOpen to 4WD.

Bore Track SouthClosed. No visitor access across Bollards Lagoon station.

Witjira National Park and the Simpson Desert Reserves

Witjira National ParkOpen to 4WD.

Simpson DesertOpen to 4WD with caution. Warburton Crossing open. 

Warburton CrossingOpen to 4WD. Use caution due to loose surface as track is freshly graded.

The use of trailers in the Simpson Desert is strongly discouraged.  Serious damage can be caused to vehicles and the environment, and difficulties are likely to result.
